Sagicor HPC boys score second win of the week

The Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre (HPC) beat a Barbados Select by 23 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis Method in their rain-hit T20 match at the 3Ws Oval at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies on Thursday.

Benn and Sammy big performers among centrally contracted players

St John's, Antigua: The WICB Cricket and Selection committees met recently to review the performances of players on WICB retainer contracts. In their review the joint committee effort found that left arm spinner Sulieman Benn and all rounder Darren Sammy were the big performers among the 14 players who hold WICB Central Retainer Contracts for the year October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.

Windies to play World Cup 2011 warm-ups in Colombo

The West Indies cricketers will have their warm-up matches in Sri Lanka ahead of next year's all important campaign at the International Cricket Council's Cricket World Cup 2011 tournament. The warm-up schedule was unveiled by the ICC and showed the Windies playing against Kenya on Saturday, February 12 and against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, February 16.

Guyana's captain Campbelle cops MVP at WICB Women's League

Shemaine Campbelle, the Guyana captain and allrounder, was named the Most Valuable Player after the conclusion of the West Indies Cricket Board's Women's 50-Over League on Thursday evening in St Vincent. The 17-year-old, right-handed batter, leg-break and googly bowler, who also keeps wicket; was presented with the coveted award at the closing ceremony at the residence of the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Britney Cooper, the highly-rated Trinidad and Tobago batter, saved best performance for the biggest occasion as she guided her team to victory in the final of the West Indies Cricket Board?s 50-Over League at Arnos Vale Playing Field 1, on Wednesday. The tall right-hander played some fine strokes to all corners of the ground as she ended on 56 not out to lead the Trinis to 157-7 off 48.1 overs as they overhauled the 156-6 off 50 overs made by the home side.

WICB contributes to Regional Under 13 Tournament

Basseterre, St Kitts - The annual Under-13 Cricket Festival in St. Kitts and Nevis has received a financial boost this year from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), as young cricketers prepare to compete in the series of matches starting Friday, August 20. The Hon. Glenn Phillip, minister responsible for sports, has conveyed a message of appreciation to Dr. Ernest Hilaire, the Chief Executive Officer of the WICB, for the contribution of EC$15,000 to the Cricket Festival. Minister Phillip described the financial and psychological support as helping to instill, in the young players, a deeper sense of pride and commitment to cricket.

Trinidad and Tobago are the champions of the West Indies Cricket Board?s Women?s 50-Over League for the second consecutive year. They defeated St Vincent and the Grenadines by three wickets at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on Wednesday. The Trinis ended on 157-7 to win with 17 balls to spare. Trinidad and Tobago have launched a positive reply to the 156 made by St Vincent and the Grenadines in the final of the West Indies Cricket Board?s Women?s 50-Over League at Arnos Vale Playing Field 1, on Wednesday. At the end of the 30th over the Trinis were on 82-3 off 30 overs with their two main batters at the crease. The West Indies Cricket Board is saddened by the news of the passing of Naz Yacoob, an undisputed stalwart in the field of cricket journalism in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean. The WICB mourns his passing after a brief illness and sends deepest condolences to his wife Betty, three children Richard, Greg and Mellisa and relatives and friends and the entire media and cricketing fraternity in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean.
