We Zingari Wins Cricket Festival

We Zingari won the final of the seventh annual cricket festival at the Queen’s Park Oval on Sunday July 1 by 21 runs. Skipper of Innswingers Stuart ‘Maddie’ Morales won the toss and asked his opponents to bat first on a glorious day of golden sunshine. On a beautiful pitch with some pace but slight variations in bounce We Zingari was off to a bad start losing their first two wickets for just six runs. They finally rallied to 169 for 8 in their thirty overs thanks mainly to their no. 8 batsman Dayon Sammy who collected 37 solid runs without being dismissed and an attractive knock of 28 by former Test player Bernard Julien who showed us some of the ability which made him a centurion at Lord’s many years ago. Although Robin Williams picked up 3 for 26 the other bowlers could do nothing to stem the flow of the late order attack of Julien and Sammy.
When Morales’ team batted they started off well although a little slowly. The opening partnership between the veteran Kennedy Pollidore and the St Mary’s schoolboy Aaron Kurbanali produced 55 runs in 12 overs. They made 24 and 30 respectively but there was little resistance afterwards only Jai Ramsaran with 42 runs getting to a good score but it took him too many overs. This hampered the run chase and the innings petered out to 148 yielding victory to the Zingarians.
It is the fourth year that We Zingari has secured the trophy.

Barry Davis receiving his trophy for scoring over 50 runs in a game.
Gregory Davis receives his trophy for most runs scored in the tournament.
QPCC Victorious

Our Club won the Carib Sunday League 50 over competition for the 2007 season. It is the third time that we have enjoyed this success in the thirteen years since the start of this tournament. This has been the first time for ten years that the Parkites have been the victor; the two previous triumphant times being in 1994, the inaugural year, and 1997.
There is a special pleasure in knowing that although it has been a long time since we have sipped the sweet nectar of glory in this most exacting of contests, no other team has had their club’s name emblazoned on this trophy more than the three times of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club. We look forward to going further ahead next year…
